The Bosch 4100 Table Saw – A Real Winner

Bosch has released new variants of their very popular and top selling 4000 series table saws. The new versions of the table saws is the Bosch 4100 table saw series. This new series has three different models.

They are as follows:

1. The Bosch 4100 table saw – standard base unit that does not include the Gravity Rise Stand. This unit will be purchased if portability is not too important or you would like to mount this unit on a bench or stand you already possess.

2. The Bosch 4100 09 table saw. This is the next unit in the series and incorporates Bosch’s award winning Gravity Rise Stand. If portability is wanted then this version is an excellent purchase.

3. The top of the range in the series is the Bosch 4100dg table saw. This unit comprises of the Gravity Rise stand and Digital Squarelock Rip fence. If greatest precision and portability is required then this unit is what you are in the market for.

All of the above units though include the source technology of the Bosch 4100 table saw series. Let us have a short run through of what the latest technology features above the older 4000 series units.

• Firstly every one of the units in the new 4100 series features the new Smart Guard System. This technology gives maximum safety with a tool free modular blade guard, anti-kickback pawls & riving knife. As stated there are no tools needed at all to take off or attach any of these features making it certainly user friendly. Plus the newly designed blade guard works separately with one another to present better control and safety whilst cutting.

• Secondly all of the models apart from the 4100dg incorporate the Squarelock Rip fence. This fence has been designed and engineered for maximum trueness and it glides easily along the rail and will firmly fasten into place where needed to. This ultimate locking system guarantees great steady accurate cutting. The 4100dg on the other hand comes with the digital version of this to achieve the ultimate in precision cutting.

• All of the models boast a generous machined aluminium table top. They are in fact the largest in the series with dimensions of 29inches by 21.5 inches. This larger work surface will allow you to be able to rip bigger stock or timber a lot easier. The table has side extensions and if extra supports are considered necessary one can easily purchase a rear or side extension support for the Bosch 4100 table saw range.

• An additional patented feature or technology, I should say, is the Constant Response Circuitry that is applied in the Bosch 4100 table saws. This technology screens the power output of the motor and directly increases the torque of the motor when required to keep a steady power output whilst cutting. Still under intense load cutting the motor’s power remains stable and smooth. The Soft Start technology, an added attribute, enables the unit to function quieter than the majority of other table saws as well.

• Last but not least, and a feature that impresses many, is that every one of the accessories such as the Smart Guard System, Fence, Miter Gauge and push stick store neatly and securly on the base of the unit. It even has a storage place for extra saw blades. Pretty handy.

To summarise the Bosch 4100 table saw series is the upgraded form of the best selling 4000 series and it is already proving to be a winner amongst the consumers. There are loads of favorable reviews for the Bosch 4100 table saw. Here are one or 2 of the customer comments:

“Great saw!, April 20, 2010
By P. Novak”

This review is from: Bosch 4100 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw.
“This is the first table saw I have owned, although I have used a very old Shopsmith. This saw is a pleasure to use. Assembly took about ten minutes which mainly involved finding and removing all of the packing materials, and adding the safety devices. The blade was square on arrival. All of the components were present, and survived shipping with no trauma. I’ve cut 3/4 and 1/4 birch plywood, and poplar hardwood so far, with no concerns. The tearout was minimal, a great deal less than I anticipated. The saw has all of the safety features, blade guard, splitter, and anti-kickback fingers. I saw that the anti-kickback feature absolutely works, a piece of plywood I was cutting lifted a little while cutting. There is a dust port in the rear that I hooked my shopvac to, it takes care of the majority of the dust, but there will be a little beneath the unit after cutting. The noise level wasn’t horrible, louder than a drill press, less than a circular saw.”

Fantastic quality of construction
By A. Jones (Portland, Oregon)

This review is from: Bosch 4100 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw
“This is my first table saw. Or rather it’s my third as I had to return the first two. I wanted something to redo my interior trim and then to have around for future tasks. My original 2 efforts were a 0 Harbor Freight cheapo (fence not accurate and just in general a poor design) and a SKIL 3400 which is supposedly a 0 saw but the design/quality of the blade guard/antikickbacks was poor and impossible to adjust to blade. I realize now why the majority are forced to run the saw with these features removed. Following this encounter I went to the local big box store which had the Bosch and Hitachi so I could view in person. The fence on the 5 Hitachi would go out of square when tightened. I was blown away by the quality of the Bosch and I wanted a saw with safety features that I wasn’t going to be forced to remove.

I got this saw from Amazon in 2 days via Prime. I’ve no idea how much it cost them as it’s HEAVY. I opted for the saw without the gravity stand as I’m short on space. The other saws I tried I could carry around myself easily. The Bosch requires 2 people. I can barely pick it up, it is that sturdy. Heavy is good in terms of accuracy when the saw is running. If you need to move it around solo you will require the gravity stand. I possibly will end up buying it.

The quality of the unit and fit and finish is simply top-notch. If you welcome things that are correctly made and well designed, this is the saw for you. It comes with a quick install guide. Reading this I had the riving knife, guard assembly and anti-kickbacks fixed first time in less than 5 minutes, no adjustment required, everything is just correct. How amazing is that? Now I know how it works, it’s 30 second job to remove/reinstall them. In addition the blade guard is a completely different design that just works.

The fence is great also. Smooth sliding and doesn’t lose accuracy when you fasten it down.

It’s a 0 saw, you can get more affordable ones for sure but this product redefines the saying you get what you pay for”.

Bosch Integrated Laundry

Bosch Integrated Laundry

The built-in washing machines from Bosch come in two variations- the 1200rpm and the 1400rpm. The 1400 washing machine is the appliance with the better specification and has a few more features than the 1200 model. The 1400 model has a capacity of 7kg whereas the 1200 model has a 6kg, but both are the same width and are rated A class for energy efficiency, which is the best rating available under the EU award scheme.

The more basic machine- the 1200- has several wash programmes, including 15 ‘Clothes Care’ programmes, a hand wash programme for wool, a delicates Silk programme, a variable spin selection with rinse hold, a freshen up programme, a sensitive programme, a dark wash, a sports wash and a cold fill programme.  And the options of Prewash, Reduced Ironing, Aqua Plus option for best rinsing results and Wash Plus can be used alongside the normal wash programmes.

If you are considering a Bosch integrated laundry appliance it is probably because the kitchen is a bit short of space and would therefore benefit from a built- in appliance as opposed to a freestanding washing machine. If you own one of the cosiest kitchens and really need some space saving ideas then another option that is available is a washer dryer. Washer dryers from Bosch are also available as built- in appliances as well as freestanding, but generally do not have as big capacities as the separate washing machines and tumble dryers, but if you can stomach doing a few more smaller loads then a built in washer dryer is a genuine space saving option.

The washer dryer that is currently available in the Bosch integrated laundry selection is the WVTi2842GB. It has a washing capacity of 5kg, a drying capacity of 2.5kg and a spin speed of 1400rpm, which is the same spin speed as the higher specification washing machine in the built in washing machine range from Bosch.

This particular model has an A rated wash performance class and a B rated spin performance class, with energy efficiency rating of B and C respectively. So the built- in washer dryers are not as energy efficient as the built- in washing machines. It has an electricity consumption of 4.5kWh per washing and drying of a full load and a water consumption of 95 litres per washing and drying of a full load.

If you are looking at a Bosch integrated laundry appliance in order to save space in the kitchen, then size is obviously one of the deciding features of the washing machine or washer dryer. The built-in washer dryer’s dimensions are as follows: Height: 82 cm, Width: 59.2 cm, and Depth: 58.4 cm. This model is available in only one colour: white.

The five environmental principles that Bosch takes into consideration are sustainability, responsibility, products, processes and continuous improvement, which is probably why most of the Bosch integrated laundry appliances come with an energy efficiency rating of A and have larger drums to save energy and water.

What’s the best way to get surface rust off a table saw top without damaging it?

Question by robvendor: What’s the best way to get surface rust off a table saw top without damaging it?
My saw top got rusty due to my dehumidifer being placed too close to it. I moved that, but want to know what to do about the table top. I don’t want to run wood threw it and get it all rust stained.

Try to cut a lemon and rub the lemon on the rust. Then you try a damp soft cloth with some baking soda on it to see if you can cleen it up.
