Woodworking may just be a hobby to some people but it can also become a money-earning hobby and a small business later on. Most entrepreneurs started their businesses as hobbies but are now full pledged business people.

The good thing about turning a hobby into a money-making venture is that it doesn’t seem like work at all because you love doing what you do. When you love what you are doing, it makes things easier and more profitable financial and emotionally.

Woodworking is a hobby that can be turned into a business venture. Woodworking is the art of creating things that are decorative and functional using wood as a material. It is a very labor-intensive occupation but the use of modern techniques and equipment lighten the load a bit.

Creating cabinets and furniture through woodworking can be a possible money-earner because people love to have wooden items in their homes because it brings memories of country life and coziness. Those who are starting out in woodworking can take advantage of shops selling do it yourself wooden products. There are also shops selling woodworking kits which includes the pre-cut materials as well as step by step instructions on how to do the project.

You can start a woodworking hobby with simple projects that require simple and inexpensive hand tools. However, a woodworker who wants to do more complicated wooden projects and wants to move on to become a better woodworker should start buying woodworking tools. The search for woodworking tools shouldn’t be that hard because there are vendors both on the internet and in actual shops who sell woodworking tools at reasonable prices.

You should be very careful and informed when choosing woodworking tools because you don’t want to waste your money and effort on useless tools that aren’t useful and important for the projects you will do. Talk to experienced woodworkers about the tools that are most useful in the industry, their present market value and their ability to carry out big projects.

You can go from hardware to other stores selling woodworking tools. However, an easy way to get these tools would be through the internet. Internet shops not only offer a list of available woodworking tools but they also offer some articles on the proper woodworking tools to buy especially for a beginner. There are also sites that give reviews on woodworking tools. Internet shops also offer different brands and prices of woodworking tools like saws and chisels.

You must take stock of what projects you will be doing in the future because it will give you an idea of what woodworking tools to buy. The belief that the more expensive the tool, the better its performance may be true but if you are new to woodworking and are just practicing, the best tools aren’t a necessity. Of course, if you think you will do woodworking for a longer time and might consider this as a permanent hobby or business then you should buy quality tools at the best possible prices.

To start with, you need to have a drill which you can use for a number of projects. A cordless drill would be ideal but isn’t recommended for those just starting in woodworking because it is expensive. You will also need a circular saw for basic cutting requirements. A driller and a good saw will enable you to do a variety of projects.

A wooden project will always require sanding so it is advisable to have a finishing sander which you can use to smooth surfaces as well as the edges of some wooden projects. It is also ideal to buy a quality table saw which can withstand the pressures of ripping wood. A common tool used by woodworkers for cutting the edge of a wood as well as molding is the router.

Wooden projects will require a lot of wooden pieces that need to be combined or joined. To be able to do this, you should also buy a biscuit joiner. This tool is important in hastening a project’s assembly.

There are more tools that would be useful to you in the future, depending on the type of projects you will be doing. You should only buy the really important ones which can be used in different small or start-up projects. Remember that when buying woodworking tools for a beginner; just choose a few pieces that are inexpensive.

Deciding on a table saw is usually a frustrating process because of the wide selection available today. Table saws come in a number of sizes, shapes, and applications they can be used for. Even though the shopping process is often frustrating, listed below are a handful of tips that should make it easier for you to pick out a saw that will hopefully last you for a considerably long time.

Get the Proper Saw BladeThe most common table saws feature 10 inch saw blades. Even so, many of the more expensive cabinet saws have a 12-inch blade. Although size is definitely essential, the blade type is in fact more important. Saw blades can be bought in a number of different types and shapes. Combination table saw blades are preferred and what you will almost certainly use until you are more knowledgeable in using a table saw to execute an array of cuts on several different types of wood.

Determine Quality of the FenceA fence is used whenever you feed a piece of wood on the tabletop and into the blade for cutting. The fence quality will most likely play a substantial role in the price of a table saw. A table saw that has a top quality fence will be higher priced compared to those without. For most common applications, an average quality fence should be more than adequate. Fences of standard quality will be fine for starters or weekend warriors, yet will more than likely not have the quality a veteran woodworker or contractor will require. Either way, you will have plenty of possibilities in replacement fences so it’s not necessarily a big deal if a saw only includes a standard quality fence.

Left Tilt or Right TiltThe majority of saws are able to tilt left or right to allow for exact and detailed cutting. In the past, table saws were just available with a right tilt except if you were willing to spend a small fortune to get a professional saw. Now, you can purchase a left or right tilt table saw. Right tilt saws are selected by the majority of carpenters simply because they make it slightly less difficult to cut precise angles. Right tilt table saws have a number of additional accessories readily available for them, as they tend to be more common and widely used.

Check Miter Gauge FitTable saws are built with a useful tool called a miter gauge which will help you precisely guide the wood as you cut. The miter gauge is loaded into a pair of slots that have been machined in the saw’s table top. A standard miter gauge that is included with a saw is normally of decent quality, nonetheless you can purchase better quality gauges to enhance their operation. A miter gauge must fit securely into the table top slots and really should not be loose.

Sticking with the previously mentioned guidelines, you will be able to pick the perfect table saw for your individual needs.

Article by Jared Cohen

In general, numerous carpenters swear by means of using worm drive saws around the worksite. Their ease of use makes them a winner amongst individuals who purchase them. The Skil HD5860 8-1/4 inch worm drive saw is a great option to consider if you are in the market for one of these saws.

One of the motives that worm drive saws are exceedingly popular and some pick them over typical circular saws is that their blades are featured on the left section of the saw and not on the right side in a sidehung position as the standard circular saws. What this means is that some prefer the blades being positioned on the left as it makes the cut less complicated to view and carry out as one does not need to lean over the saw to set eyes on your cut as with the conventional circular saw. When making difficult cuts a circular saw can “bite in” or

be the source of a dodgy kickback every so often, with worm drive saws this happens less as with the way that the blade and saw functions when making your cut.

The Skil HD5860 Worm Drive Saw is no toy in its group and has a genuine powerful engine of 13 amps. This motor torque coupled with the slightly heavier mass of the saw allows the Skil HD5860 to turn out quick , smooth cuts through loads of different dimensions of timber. It will also yield these smooth cuts at 45, 60 and 90 degree angles, without any hiccups. The unit has a dual front sight which is practical to help you direct the unit through the varied angle cuts.

A very handy (and should be default on many power saw tools) option on the Skil HD5860 Worm Drive Saw is the oil indicator level that is very noticeable and toping the unit up is a breeze. This will maintain the lubrication at the right levels in your saw to allow for greatest usage lifespan.

The actual body or housing of the unit is genuinely robust and sturdy. The unit sports a die-cast aluminium motor and gear housing with ultra long-lasting worm drive gears to make certain the maximum tool life of your saw.

Generally the Skil HD5860 Worm Drive Saw is nicely balanced with the rear handle, it has an aircraft grade aluminium foot that glides nicely, packs sufficient power to go seamlessly through your material or stock of choice and has been popular amongst those that have got the saw. If you are not aware the Skil brand is in fact produced

by the Bosch Tool Corporation so their products (Skil) is very decent quality in general. We give it the thumbs up as money well spent on a worm drive saw.

Some of the testimonials of the people who have acquired the Skil HD5860 22 Amp 8-1/4-Inch 60-Degree Worm Drive Saw are as follows:

5.0 out of 5 stars A great saw,By “logpile” (Ontario, Canada)

This review is from: Skil HD5860 22 Amp 8-1/4-Inch 60-Degree Worm Drive Saw. Having owned this saw for 10 years and working in construction, loghome building, and timberframing I have found this saw to be very reliable. It has the torque to power thru any wood or log required for the job at hand. The saw is variable and can be used with different accessories made for it. I would definitely recommend this saw to anyone for any type of construction

5.0 out of 5 stars,NO worries, no complaints,Amazon Verified PurchaseThis review is from: Skil HD5860 22 Amp 8-1/4-Inch 60-Degree Worm Drive Saw. I’m not a very frequent user of this saw, but it’s been roughly a year since I got this it, so I feel capable to write a review. I do not have much to say and that’s a good thing. This saw has given me no troubles and has done a great job on concrete, lumber, tree branches (no chain saw )-: ), etc. I guess it’s a little on the heavy side, but I appreciate that it isn’t easy to break (I’ve “experimented” with dropping it once or twice).

How To Buy Your First Table Saw

table saw blades

Article by Bill Miller

Buying your first table saw can be very confusing. Table Saws come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and are designed for a wide range of applications.

Here are some tips on choosing your first table saw.

Fence: The fence is the slidng part of the table saw. This is used when you feed the wood onto the saw. Commonly, the quality of the fence will be the deciding factor as to how much the table saw cost. Always look for a fence that runs parallel to the blade. Most contractor saws have medium quality fences, but not all. For common cutting applications, a middle of the road fence will be more than enough. Medium quality fences are okay for beginners and weekend handy men, but will lack the quality that a cabinet maker needs. You have plenty of choices in third party fences so don’t loose sleep over it.

Tilt: A table saws tilts. Table saws tilt right or left. In the past, table saws only came with a right tilt with the exception of some professional models. Now days, you can get right or left tilting table saws. Right tilts are easier cutting long edges and preferred by many. Right tilt saws are still the most common and come with more accessories than left tilt table saws.

Miter gauge: Table saws are sold with mitre guages. There are two slots machined into the tabletop where the mitre guage fits into. This is where you guide the wood. Just as with the rip fence, most of the mitre guages that come with the saw are of average quality. You can buy better mitre guages than what come with the table saw. Try inserting the mitre guage into the slots and check to see how snug they are. Do not choose one with a loose fit. You want one that fits snug.

Size of Motor: The most common size for a table saw motor is either a 1 1/2 or 2 horsepower motor. The big professional cabinet saws will have up to a 5 horse motor. For most applications, the 1 1/2 or 2 horsepower motor on the contractor saw is powerful enough. To get the most out of your contractor saw, go slowly and use a sharp blade. I prefer carbide tipped blades.

Saw blade: 10 inch blade models are the most popular, however, many of the most expensive cabinet saws have a 12-inch blade. The quality and type of blade is more important than the size. Table saw blades come in a wide variety shape and types. Daddo blades and combination blades are the two most popular and the ones you should start out with until you become familiar with other types of blades and their uses. It’s very important that you keep your blades clean.

Tabletop: The tabletop is probably the most important part of the saw. As with most anything, you’ll find a wide difference of quality among tabletops. Don’t scrimp on the table top, it pays to buy a high quality tabletop. Make sure the tabletop is as flat as possible if you want trouble free operation. Not all tabletops are flat and the ones that aren’t make it difficult to make precision cuts. You can reduce your chances of future problems by going with a tabletop from a reputable table saw manufacturer.
