Details of the Bosch AHS 52 LI

The Bosch AHS 52 LI hedge trimmer is a powerful leading class wireless hedge trimmer. It has a controllable 52cm length cutting blade that showcases Bosch’s ‘anti-stall’ technology which helps to limit harm to the machine if the blades cannot cope with the size of branch it is cutting . The AHS 52 LI has an 18v lithium-ion battery which, when fully charged, can last up to 50 minutes of prolonged hedge trimming. Once finished, it only takes 3 hours to charge the battery, which makes this machine ready for it’s next use. The hedge trimmer is nice and lightweight, making sure that this hedge trimmer is usable by anybody, weighing in at only 2.3kg. This is mainly thanks to its lithium-ion battery, which is wonderful at storing even more charge than ever before. The machine is supplied complete with the battery charger.

The Bosch AHS 52 LI has extremely good quality blades. The blades are 52cm long and the tooth spacing in between each of the blades is 15mm so the machine can cut through nearly all types and sizes of of garden hedge. The hedge trimmer’s blades are laser-cut, diamond ground blades for a clean cut and designed to last longer than standard steel blades.

The fresh design of the Bosch AHS 52 LI means that the machine has a great balance and a great ergonomic design due to new re-design and now utilizes a soft grip handle. The hedge trimmer is incredibly light weight (only 2.3kg) which is up to 30% lighter than comparable equipment. This means that you can use the trimmer for longer and you will feel much more comfortable using it before your arms start to ache.

The trimmer has to be operated with two hands and there are two separate safety switches – one on each handle to combat accidental starting of the trimmer. This ensures safety for the user, and aids control over the trimmer.

Lithium-ion Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect which means you can begin hedge trimming at any time as the battery has negligible self-discharge. You should also find that the battery does not gradually lose power like standard lead batteries. Instead, the battery will run at full power and then start to lose power only at the end of its charge. This means the Bosch wil last longer than most other battery powered hedge trimmers. The Bosch AHS 52 LI has an 18v lithium-ion battery which will additionally fit other products in the Bosch series like the Bosch ART 26 LI battery powered strimmer. The charge time of the battery on the Bosch AHS 52 LI is 3 hours, so you can be trimming hedges in no time!

Accessories for the Bosch AHS 52 LI

You may be wondering what else you might need to go with your Bosch AHS 52 LI. Bosch 4100-09 – A Really Safe Portable Table Saw

table saw blades
by Charles & Hudson

Article by Hal Hendricks

The table saw isn’t, by itself, dangerous. However, if you disregard good safety practices or don’t keep your attention completely focused on what you’re doing, you could have an accident. Approximately 32% of the table saw accidents are due to kickback, with injuries to the head, face and neck. The majority occur because of physical contact with the spinning blade. Of those accidents, about 10% result in amputation – of fingers or thumb. These are very sobering statistics, but the Bosch 4100-09 has integral safety features that go a long way in keeping you safe while using the saw.

Kickback causes a lot of injuries. What is it and how can it be prevented? Kickback is when the wood being cut is unexpectedly thrown back at the operator. It originates at the back of the blade and can be caused by a variety of things, but the most common are stopping before the cut is complete, backing out of a cut, and a toed in fence, allowing the wood to come in contact with the back of the blade. The simplest way to prevent kickback is with a riving knife, which doesn• t allow the wood to come in contact with the back of the blade.

The 4100-09 has an excellent, three position riving knife. At its full height, the riving knife accepts a snap-on anti-kickback pawl and a clamp-on guard. The second position is for rabbets and other non-through cuts. The lowest position is beneath the saw for dados.

The blade guard on the Bosch 4100 table saw has a new split-guard feature. The cut line isn• t obscured by the guard, but it still offers maximum protection. Compare this to saws where the blade guard actually obscures the cut.

Because the whole guard system on the 4100-09 is modular, each component can be added or removed, based on the task at hand. This may not seem like a big deal, since the guard systems on most saws can be removed. What makes this system stand out is that all the elements are tool free. It is easy to remove them, and it is just as easy to re-install them. You won• t be tempted to leave the guard off, for example, because it• s a hassle to put on and you can• t remember where you put the tool anyway.

No one thinks he will ever have an accident while using power tools, but unfortunately, they do happen. The 4100-09, however, has taken safety to a new level, making it easier than ever to have an enjoyable • and safe • woodworking experience.

Make sure you get the right table saw for your needs and your budget. Find out more about the Bosch 4100 and other fine table saws at 10 Inch Table Saws.

A quick way to cut a dado on a table saw

table saw blades
by Charles & Hudson

Here’s a quick way to cut a dado on a table saw. It only requires a combination saw blade and two spacers. The spacers are used to establish the two sides of the dado. Then the material between the sides is wasted out.

Spacer Thickness – The key to making this work is the thickness of the spacers. The first spacer matches the thickness of the work piece that fits into the dado. (A scrap piece from the project works just fine.) And the second spacer equals the thickness of the blade. (I use a piece of 1/8″ hardboard with a single strip of masking tape.)

First Side – To cut the first side of the dado, start by clamping one spacer (the scrap from the project) to the rip fence, as you can see in the drawing at right. Then position the fence so the saw blade aligns with the near side of the dado. After locking the fence in place, butt the work piece against the spacer and use the mitre gauge to push it through the blade.

Note: You can use this same technique for cutting grooves. The only thing to keep in mind is that the spacers need to be the same length as the fence.

Second Side – The second side of the dado is cut with the rip fence in the same exact position. Only this time, you’ll need to replace the first spacer with one that matches the thickness of the blade. With this spacer clamped in place, it’s just a matter of making a second pass.

Remove Waste – all that’s left to complete the dado, is to remove the rest of the waste. To do this, just “nibble” away the waste by making as many passes as needed.

Ridges – One thing you’ll notice about a combination blade is it leaves ridges on the bottom of the dado. If the end of the dado is going to be covered up, you can just leave the ridges.

But if it’s exposed, you may want to sand the bottom of the dado flat.

Felder introduces new model sliding table saw

Felder debuted its new top-of-the-line sliding table saw, the Kappa 550, at the AWFS Vegas Fair. It features digital, 3-axis control and is designed for high-volume production. A unique feature of the new saw is the ability to park the scoring blade to the side, so it doesnt have to be removed if the operator just wants to make a simple cut with the main sawblade. Another nice feature is a pull-out drawer that provides storage space for about 5 sawblades. It accepts a maximum 550mm sawblade diameter. An optional swing-away table is available. Check out the video for a quick overview.
